The 2026 Duke of Endinburgh's Cup Barbados Qualifying Event will be held in March 2026 at the Apes Hill Golf Resort.

This is the tournament with the best prize of all tournaments on the island: The winner is rewarded with a trip to play in the international final at Windsor Castle.  The world final is held over two days. There is also a Royal Dinner.

All monies raised from the tournament are used to support the day to day delivery of the Award in Barbados. This includes providing training for volunteers and youth.

Highlights from the 2024 Golf Event

Why Should I Participate?

- An Opportunity to qualify for the World Finals at Windsor Castle The two Winners from our event will qualify for the World Finals in the United Kingdom. These players will be invited, to Windsor for the 36-hole World Finals and Prize Giving at a Royal Gala Dinner at Windsor Castle. Airfare, accommodation, and other expenses are included.

- Network with corporate and business leaders This event brings together business leaders from across the spectrum, alongside expatriates and other supporters of the work of the Award

-Contribute to youth development through The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Proceeds from the event are directed towards the work of the local Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, a globally recognized programme that empowers young people to develop confidence, resilience, and real-world skills. It offers a safe environment of support and challenge, allowing young people to strive for achievement and overcome obstacles. The Award is open to any young person aged 14-24, and they build their own programs by choosing activities and causes to volunteer for, aiming to achieve a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award. The program operates worldwide, providing opportunities for young people to gain knowledge, broaden horizons, and accumulate diverse experiences. The Award promotes positive youth development through an experienced-based learning approach, complementing formal education and providing essential life skills.

General Tournament Rules

*Rules of the World Finals may vary 

The Barbados Qualifying Competition is to be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as laid down by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the USGA and any Local Rule that the golf club has in place.

It is to be an 18 hole Stableford competition, playing handicap is 90% (after slope adjustment) with a maximum handicap of 28 for men and 36 for ladies.

Nearest-the-pin Challenge is applicable to all Par 3 Holes

Distance only measuring / GPS devices are allowed for the duration of the whole series including the World Finals.

 

Because of duty of care a qualifying player must be 18 years or older on the start date of the World Finals.

A player must have a current valid WHS Handicap to Qualify for the World Finals.

Ties will be decided by count back of the last nine, six, three, two and final hole of the course regardless of the order played. If still the same then the last six, three, two and final hole of the front nine will decide.

If there is still no result there will be a sudden death play-off using Stableford scoring with full handicap.

The two players with the best net Stableford scores, either make or female, will qualify for the World Finals.
